Jeb, a country boy, bought a hound dog from an old farmer for $10. The farmer agreed to deliver the dog the next day. The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, son, but I have some bad news. " "On my way over here, that hound dog jumped out of my truck and got hit by a car. He’s stone dead." "Well then, just give me my money back," said Jeb. "Can’t do that," the farmer said. "I went and spent it already." "OK then, just unload the hound dog," Jeb ordered. Surprised, the farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?" "I’m going to raffle him off," said Jeb. The farmer slapped his hat on his knee and yelled, "Tarnation, son! "You can’t raffle off a dead dog!" "Sure I can," said Jeb. "I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead." A month later, the farmer met up with Jeb and asked, "What happened with that dead hound?" "I raffled him off," said Jeb. "I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $990." "Didn’t anyone complain?" The farmer asked. "Just the guy who won," said Jeb. "So I gave him his two dollars back."
